Megali Ammos
This is the closest beach resort to Skiathos Town and is located on the coast road heading to Koukounaries, the furthest point on the west coast of the island.
A superb long sandy beach with watersports and tavernas. There are many houses and apartments here but its claim to fame is the excellent Hotel Aegean Suites, a member of the 'Small Luxury Hotels of the World'
A fifteen minute walk will take you into Skiathos Town. The town is made up of two waterfronts, one with caiques and water taxis on the old harbour and ferries, hydrofoils, sail boats and private yachts on the 'new' harbour.
Alongside both harbours are tavernas, bars and shops, many of which are jewellery shops. There are buses that run regularly from town to Koukounaries running until late evening and taxis which run throughout the night.
Skiathos Town is built on a hillside where you are rewarded at the top with a delightful restaurant called The Windmill, so named because the original old, broken windmill has been lovingly restored by its owners to full working order.
The views at night are quite spectacular looking down over the twinkling lights of town and out over the Aegean with the lights of the fishing boats bobbing up and down.
