Lourdas and Skala
Lourdas is situated on the south coast between Argostoli and Skala. A steep winding road meanders its way down from Vlachata through Lourdas and the small attractive village of Lourdata until you reach the 1 kilometre long white sand and shingle beach, which shelves gently into the azure blue sea. This makes it an ideal spot for families and young children to enjoy the beach. Sun beds and motorboats are available for hire and there are half a dozen or so good local tavernas and a minimarket dotted along the waterfront.
The transfer time to Lourdas from Kefalonia airport is around 45 minutes.
Skala is a small village that has become a resort whose main attraction is its long expanse of fine shingle and sand shelving gently into the sea, with further isolated coves in the surrounding area.
There is a small high street area with shops, bars and tavernas - the necessities for holiday living. Just along the coast, Potomaki beach is a haven for the rare loggerhead turtles and has thus now been declared as a conservation area - night time turtle watching is available for those who wish to observe these wonderful creatures without disturbing them and threatening their survival.
Skala is a popular destination for holidaymakers of all ages - the beach has a blue flag award and the numerous bars, tavernas and shops offer something for everyone.
