Built in the 15th century by the Venetians, this unique property comprises two vaults, originally used for storing acorns and carrots as animal fodder plus an olive press. It has recently been lovingly and imaginatively converted to offer comfortable accommodation of great character and quality.

Inside the villa, natural wood complements the exposed stonework, big open fireplace and high vaulted ceiling of the living area. The open-plan kitchen is also fitted with wooden units and modern appliances including canopied oven with four ring hob and large fridge-freezer.

Also on the ground floor is a twin bedroom and the house bathroom which also houses a washing machine. A wooden staircase leads to two further twins and large sun terrace.

Outside, the second vault provides a shaded outdoor dining area and leads to pretty raised gardens and the swimming pool with south facing terraces. The villa is surrounded by high stone walls, affording total privacy.

The small, traditional village of Gallou is situated just 3km from the beach and 5km from Rethymnon. It offers a minimarket, small shop, taverna and regular bus service. There are also a couple of big hypermarkets a few minutes drive away. There are some excellent walking routes from the village including a gorge and the nearby village of Atsimopoulo.

Car hire is essential, and transfers from the airport are not included in any prices quoted.
