Aghios Georgios (South), Agios Ioannis-Peristeron, Moraitika, and Paramonas
Aghios Georgios with its long blue flag sandy beach lies to the south of Lake Korission approximately 45 minutes from the airport and Corfu Town. To the north of the village are sand dunes and the salt water lagoon of Lake Korission – a must for wildlife lovers.
Aghios Georgios is a relaxed resort suitable for both couples and families. Beachside tavernas abound serving everything from snacks to four course meals. The blue flag beach with it's showers, toilets, and changing cabins is perfect for families. However, care needs to be taken as the west coast of Corfu does experience some strong sea currents. A variety of watersports are available from the beach
As evening falls, there is a wide choice of tavernas and restauraunts making Aghios Georgios the perfect place for the quintessential relaxing holiday.
Agios Ioannis-Peristeron is located on Corfu's eastern shores just 15 km from vibrant Corfu Town. Its blue flag beach is long and made up of fine pebbles and dark sand. Many of the hotels offer private beaches with associated watersports. Relatively undeveloped the village offers a number of hotels from simple Greek studios to 5 star luxury hotels.
Just a few kilometres further along the coast road in either direction are the much more developed resorts of Moraitika and Messonghi to the south and Benitses to the north.
Moraitika has grown a great deal over the years and is now a very developed resort that is tending to merge with the Messonghi resort on the other side of the river Messonghi, which forms the border between the two. The original village of Ano Moraitika still exists on the hill above but is now dwarfed by the largely purpose-built resort that runs along either side of the coast road. Moraitika is based around this main strip which has plenty of bars, tavernas and restaurants. The resort is a cosmopolitan mix of families and couples who want an independent resort but also to remain close to Corfu Town.
Benitses is a former fishing village set amidst wooded hills and now offers something of a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere - perfect for couples. The traditional village retains much more of the traditional village architecture when compared with other resorts on the island. There are still whitewashed houses bedecked with flowers, and fishermen still work from the pedestrianised harbour.
Paramonas is a sleepy village situated on Corfu's western coast just below the hillside town of Aghios Matheos. It has a fantastic sandy beach with all the amenities needed - sunbeds, showers, and a few tavernas. There is just one hotel, a smattering of villas in the surrounding area and a couple of tavernas. The peacefulness of the area capitvates people who return time and again.
