Patitiri the capital of the island, which is set in an idyllic bay sheltered by cliffs and rock formations. The old town is a maze of narrow cobbled streets and bougainvillea clad houses. Along the pretty harbourside there are shops, tavernas and restaurants. Venture further inland and you will discover wonderful wooded hillsides, deep pine woods and an abundance of fruit orchards.

Narrow whitewashed streets and stairs give a particular atmosphere to this little harbour, surrounded by incredibly crystalline emerald waters and rocky marble formations well illuminated during the night.

The whole village is surrounded by dense pine forest. On the seafront, a little sandy beach shares some of its calmness with the taverns and little cafes boarding the harbour. A good range of supermarkets, bakeries, chemists and other little shops can be found in Patitiri, in the two main streets staring from the harbour.

The island also has countless delightful coves and bays, most of them shingle and pebble.

Megalos Mourtias lies within walking distance of the town and has panoramic views across to Skopelos.

One of the best ways of exploring Alonissos is by water taxi and a small fleet will take you to beach resorts of Chyrssi Milia, Kokkinokastro and Lephto Yialos.
