Mykonos Activities
Water sportsFashionable Mykonos is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches, not least of which are the naturist haunts of Paradise, Super Paradise and Elia. In Plati Yialos, a fleet of small caiques is on hand to help you explore these beaches. Most of the main beaches have water sports schools, offering the usual range of activities, from water skiing and wakeboarding to rings, bananas and jet skis. Paradise beach also has a dive school, whilst Panormos Bay enjoys the right conditions for a windsurfing school to flourish.
ExploringCoach tours and car rentals enable you to discover the island’s main beaches and places of interest, including the monastery of Panaghia Tourliani. Other options include jeep safaris and horse riding. There is plenty to see in the main town of Mykonos itself, although you will soon become lost in the warren of dazzling white alleys, which were deliberately laid out like a maze to confuse invaders. If the pretty white houses with their brightly coloured balconies and blazes of bougainvillea were not enough, Mykonos has a picture postcard waterfront, complete with resident pelican and overlooked by a line of windmills. As the sun goes down, the many bars and restaurants of the main town make this the best place in Greece to see and be seen. From Mykonos, regular ferries make it very easy to explore the sacred island of Delos, the birthplace of Apollo. Here you can easily spend half a day or more wandering round this huge open air museum, one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Don’t miss the Theatre, the Lion Terrace and the mosaic in the House of the Dolphins.
